All I could remember was Reuben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Because they're funny looking ;)BayonneMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01488678707012006455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-3213485696120872882008-03-19T13:04:00.000-05:002008-03-19T13:04:00.000-05:00a few have had succssful careers. most are quickly...a few have had succssful careers. most are quickly dropped as nobody cares about buying their records. im the perfect example: obssessed with the show, immediately forget every face the day after its over. dont care. i wouldnt know if Taylor Hicks was playing in my living room right now. and prolly about 95% of Idol fans are closer to me in that regard than anything else. a few get lucky with acting careers. if you add up both acting and music, ill be VERY liberal and say maybe 10 success stories. MAYBE. Underwood/Daughtry/Clarkson/Hudson/Aiken are about it that come to mind. compare that to the number of shit acts MTV and radio has given us. please.Xmastimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15544674192781787193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-50223698384731163662008-03-19T12:59:00.000-05:002008-03-19T12:59:00.000-05:00alright, "yacht rock" was pretty funny. i'm a boz ...alright, "yacht rock" was pretty funny. i'm a boz scaggs/silk degrees man myselfhere.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13691992397751594829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-29984845473591231242008-03-19T12:55:00.000-05:002008-03-19T12:55:00.000-05:00Well, AI is certainly giving MTV a run for the mon...Well, AI is certainly giving MTV a run for the money these days. Don't the winners from AI go on to record their own bland music after the show is over? And haven't a few of those artists been very successful?

I knew my defense of soft rock (I prefer the term "yacht rock") would continue to haunt me, but one day you'll discover the joys of Bread and you'll thank me.BayonneMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01488678707012006455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-45393160495519844552008-03-19T12:53:00.000-05:002008-03-19T12:53:00.000-05:00you two have to go home nowyou two have to go home nowhere.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13691992397751594829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-18745214873760220102008-03-19T12:43:00.000-05:002008-03-19T12:43:00.000-05:00why does it have to "help"? by the time AI started...why does it have to "help"? by the time AI started we were a half decade into britney/boy bands etc etc. whats done more to destroy music, MTV or AI? not even close. and what music on AI is gonna become popular? Beatles covers? Bryan Adams covers? Really? we're gonna get overrun with Lionel Ritchie covers now? Hell no. But the next time Aerosmith or the Foo Fighters out out a record the stampede begins. camon. get over your Idol hatred. let it go. again, it's not keeping the remastered Sandinista off the airwaves. or, of course, your soft rock.Xmastimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15544674192781787193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-56711292029857485202008-03-19T12:16:00.000-05:002008-03-19T12:16:00.000-05:00How is it helping then? I still don't understand your "it's just show with singers on it," it doesn't have an impact at all line.

Actually, this is the very same argument you were making against Will Ferrell movies. As long as they rake in the money, we'll be seeing more like them.BayonneMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01488678707012006455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-9712711242862152872008-03-19T11:20:00.000-05:002008-03-19T11:20:00.000-05:00my point isnt to defend Idol itself but to rebuke ...my point isnt to defend Idol itself but to rebuke your insidious claim that it is somehow responsible for the death of popular music. maybe I should repeat this 4 or 5 more times?Xmastimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15544674192781787193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-10053676473965309732008-03-19T11:11:00.001-05:002008-03-19T11:11:00.001-05:00i do have to give xmas props for his "paradise das...i do have to give xmas props for his "paradise dashboard" as music history milestone argument. money quote: "it's like three songs in one" ... or as sociologists term it, the triple cheeseburger theoryhere.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13691992397751594829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-54505786923389413742008-03-19T11:11:00.000-05:002008-03-19T11:11:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.here.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13691992397751594829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-667129559485946286.post-80444414069797525282008-03-19T10:31:00.000-05:002008-03-19T10:31:00.000-05:00Nice find, GIHYB. Actually, that post was just a ploy to get Xmastime to defend American Idol (although now it looks like he may be coming to his senses). More ammunition for our next argument over music (it's right up there with his defense of Meatloaf).BayonneMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01488678707012006455noreply@blogger.com
